In 1966, the Washington Redskins and New York Giants met in the highest-scoring game in NFL history. This game was a high-flying affair that saw 16 touchdowns scored and six of them were over 50 yards in distance.
In this contest, the Giants were coming off a 0-4 record. While Washington was on the verge of missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade. It was a game that was filled with big plays, and it also ended in a 72-41 win by the Redskins.
The Giants had a rookie quarterback under center in this game, Tom Kennedy. While the Redskins were relying on a veteran in Sonny Jurgensen. It wasn’t a good start for Kennedy as he was intercepted by Washington’s Brig Owens in the first quarter.
Houston Oilers vs. Oakland Raiders 1963
The Houston Oilers came into this game with a record of 4-3. Needing a win to keep pace with their Eastern Division rivals. The Boston Patriots also had a 4-3-2 record. The Raiders, on the other hand, had a 1-13 record from the previous season.
The Oilers started the game well as they ripped through their first-quarter possession. George Blanda was able to kick a 30-yard field goal to give the Oilers an early 3-0 lead.
However, the Raiders soon got on the board with a TD pass from Tom Flores to Clem Daniels. And an 85-yard pass from Art Powell to Mike Mercer.
